Minutes:Ê There were no minutes from the May 2002 meeting to be approved.Ê All minutes will be posted on the UPSA web site www.ku.edu/~upsa.ÊÊ

TreasurerÕs Report: Sloop presented a balance sheet showing a carry forward of $612.90.Ê She, Consolver and Hayden will visit to make sure that all Professional Development Awards had been included.

PresidentÕs Report:

SenEx Meetings ø SenEx committees are busy writing charges for various Boards.Ê Simons is writing charges for the Academic Computing and Telecommunication Committee.Ê The Academic Policy and Procedure Committee will be charged to consider including a staff appointment (itÕs currently faculty and students only).Ê The Athletic Corporation Board has already been charged with consideration for staff appointment and a deadline of December 31 has been included.Ê Organizations and Administration are to review adding staff to all standing committees, including O&A.Ê SenEx will be working on a proposal for tuition waivers for staff and dependents after all charges are written.

Meetings with Provost: Simons reports that the provost meets monthly with the President of UPSA, Classified Senate, Faculty Senate and the SenEx chair.Ê She has not had an opportunity to attend this meeting yet.

Committees: UPSAÕs committees include Public Relations, Governance and Representation, Professional Development, and Nominations.Ê A summary of the duties of these committees was presented by the chairs present, and are available on the UPSA web site.

There are also several university wide committees that have UPSA representation.Ê Descriptions of these committees and interest forms are also on the UPSA web site.

During the recent on-line elections, 18 names were submitted through interest forms on the web site.Ê Johnson reminded us that the Provost must consider representation from all areas of the University when making these appointments.Ê She will assist him in having these appointments completed in July.

Classified Senate:Ê Stiers reported that they will have a Classified Senate table at the KU Open House on October 5th

New Business: Representatives to University Council: Currently Tuttle, Potts and Simons represent UPSA at University Council.Ê All of these appointments will stay in place for this year.Ê Simons advised that Larry Draper is the chair of SenEx and Tom Mulinazzi is the University Council president.

UPSA Meeting Schedule:Ê Generally there is no meeting scheduled for August.Ê UPSA meetings will normally be held the second Tuesday of the month.Ê The next meeting will be July 9th.

Budget Impact:Ê Simons reported that sheÕd gotten a call from the provost advising the need for $5 million in cuts on the Lawrence campus.Ê Academic units will have a 1% cut and other units a 1.75% cut.Ê 22 people will lose their jobs (they have already been informed with varying lengths of notice).Ê 35 vacant positions will be eliminated.Ê

This prompted much discussion on the topic.Ê Houston would like for UPSA members to be able to make recommendations or provide feedback to the provost through Simons' regular meetings with him.Ê Tuttle urged members to play a role in calming the impact by trying to control rumors and panic as much as they can.

Simons will look into having someone attend a meeting who can answer questions about this topic.

August Meeting:Ê Before we adjourned, the group decided that we should go ahead and schedule a meeting in August.Ê This meeting will be Tuesday the 13th

Meeting adjourned at 1:00 pm.
